A bedroom suite that opens to the lake, with the bath placed where the last light leaves the water.

Villa Lario sits on a steep slope above the western shore of the lake. The owners spend the summers here and wanted the main bedroom to feel like a place to stay in all day.

We turned the room so the bed faces away from the view and the bath faces into it. A carved stone tub sits on a plinth by the glass, and a low fire runs along the opposite wall, so the room is warm from both sides on cool evenings.

Everything near the bed is soft: linen, bouclé, a hand-knotted rug and a headboard wall in dark stone that absorbs the light rather than bouncing it. A single pendant hangs beside each side of the bed, dimmed so low it barely reads as a lamp.
